HPS Lamp-- Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp

Himalayan Pink Salt Lamps (HPS) Lamps are an environmental friendly and health beneficial item that is one of the smartest purchases people make.  HPS functions as an air purifier by turning positive ions to negative ions.  All matters are made up of molecules which are made up of atoms.  Atoms compose of three types of particles: protons (positive charge), neutrons (negative charge), and electrons (no charge).  Electrons flies off occasionally, when that happens it leaves behind a positively charged ion. Some lose electrons earlier than others.  And they want to fill the void that is left off by another.

As mentioned earlier, the Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp utilizes a light bulb or candle in the salt to produce heat, and it absorbs moisture and any attached airborne particulate then evaporating pure water pack out into the surrounding environment.  The same water than evaporates back into the air and trapped particles of dust, pollen, cigarette smoke, and other contaminants from the air. Salt Lamp has an incredible power to remove dust, pollen, cigarette smoke, and other contaminants from the air.  This is done by the process of hygroscopy responsible for one of the most common problems inherent to genuine Himalayan Pink Salt Lamps - sweating.
(Which means they attract water molecules from their surrounding environment, then those molecules are absorbed, along with any foreign particles they may be carrying, into the salt crystals)

By token of this process, it helps to reduce allergies and asthma symptoms through the removal of microscopic particles of dust, pet dander, mold, mildew and the like from the surrounding air.  Therefore, placing a lamp or two in the rooms where you spend the most of your time can seriously cut back allergy symptoms; even asthmatic sufferers should notice a big difference after a week or two.  (There are HSP inhalers for asthmatics.)

The heat of the lamp begins its hygroscopic cycling of airborne particles, at the same time it changes the charge of the molecules which are released.  Most homes are filled with positively ions which aren’t specifically beneficial for a person’s health.  And positive ions are created by a number things, primarily electronics.

When taking in lots of positive ions in the air it causes the cilia that lines the trachea, to become sluggish.  The more sluggish the cilia becomes the less effective it becomes of keeping out contaminants from our lungs.  The heat from the lamp releases the cleansed water vapor and negative ions back into the air.  This means that it helps your body filter air more efficiently so foreign particles you do happen to breathe won’t make it into your lungs. Negative ions energizes our body as they counteract the positive ions filled in the air.  Activities that gives helps us re-energize our bodies from positive ions include: showering first thing in the morning, driving through the country side with the windows down, or spending time at the beach or camping in the mountains.

We work in an age of technology, where we are surrounded by and carry electronic devices with us all the time.  Electronic devices emit electromagnetic (EM) radiation.  The long term effects of EM exposure can be serious: including rising stress level, chronic fatigue, and decrease body’s immune response. EM flows from television, computer, cell phone, tablet, appliances, stereo, etc.).  They emit negative ions into the air, and the HPS lamp will hen neutralize the EM.

The over filled positive ions in the air also reduces the blood and oxygen supply to the brain that leads to irregular sleep patters.  With HPS lamp, it is a natural negative ion generators, which will help reverse this problem.  If darkness is what’s needed to sleep, then keeping it on all day and turning it off at night will still enable you to weep the benefits from the lamp.

Himalayan Pink Salt (HPS) lamp is a natural enhancer to your mood and to help you relax and unwind at the end of the day. The benefits of the lamp results from the negative ions that it generates.  Negative ions are also good for reducing the static  electricity in the air.  These negative ions impacts your body by improving blood concentration, blood and oxygen supply to the brain and other organs, as well we providing a boost of serotonin — the neurotransmitter that makes us feel happy!

Lastly, the soft natural glow of light is close enough to warm glow of sunshine that can even be used to relieve the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (when the days get shorter - fighting back the lethargy by surrounding yourself with a few HPS lamp would be helpful).  They are also environmentally friendly.

Now, there is a strategy to choosing a Himalayan Pink Salt lamp that will bring these benefits - the HPS lamp size will determine the coverage of the room.  Rule of thumb is 1 pound of the lamp will cover an area of 4’ x 4’.  This means small lamps ranging 5~8 pounds are good for average bedroom, while larger lamps of 11~15 pounds are better for spaces like the living room or den.  For those who reside in humid climate areas should be aware that HPS lamps tend to weep when the salt becomes too cool.  A protection of the surface is necessary underneath and to be sure to follow the instructions and care.  Generally, avoid getting wet.

Personally, I love the soft aura of the lamp.  It’s nice pinkish tone gives the room a nice feel.
